CBD is fast becoming a go-to for many people looking for a natural supplement for their health and wellness.  However, the reality is that not all CBD products are created equally, so it is important to do your research before buying.  This article will give you insights into the important factors to consider when you pick a CBD product.

But first, it goes without saying, CBD is not a cure-all and should never replace a prescribed treatment for a medical condition.  That being said, more and more research studies and anecdotal reports from people who have tried CBD are pointing to it having health-enhancing properties that many find to be beneficial.  So, if you are looking to try a CBD product for any reason, we encourage you to make an informed decision about the product that you choose.

Important Things to Consider

Be aware that not all retailers maintain the same standards and quality controls. So, when you pick a CBD product, it is important to make sure you purchase from a reputable seller that only sells high-quality products that comply with federal requirements.

Make Sure it is Legally Compliant

Reputable CBD product manufacturers and sellers will be in full compliance with the 2018 Farm Bill and the U.S. Controlled Substance Act, which legalized CBD under certain conditions. Make certain that you buy from a seller that only sells CBD products that are in line with the federal requirement of the product containing “less than 0.3% THC”. Don’t accept vague statements like “only trace amounts.”

Not all CBD is sourced from legal sources. The U.S. federal government requires that – to be legally compliant – CBD must be sourced from Cannabis sativa plants that contain less than 0.3% of THC. These plants are officially categorized as “industrial hemp” and do not contain enough THC to create the “high” feeling people associate with marijuana. In contrast, Cannabis sativa plants that contain more than the legal limit of THC are categorized as marijuana and are not permitted to be used for CBD products.

THC, being psychoactive, is what gives marijuana its euphoric, “mind-altering” or “high-inducing” properties. In contrast, CBD – among other potential benefits – is more likely to just make you feel more relaxed and less stressed, fall asleep faster and sleep soundly through the night, and help reduce annoying aches and pains.

Yummy CBD products are made exclusively from industrial hemp and contain less than 0.3% THC.  All our products meet Federal regulations for legal, safe CBD, and they will not cause you to feel “high”.

Choose American Grown Organic Hemp

To ensure high standards and safety, we recommend only using products that are made with hemp grown and harvested in the USA. So that you can be certain of where your CBD was sourced, the seller should be able to provide you with the location of the farm from where their hemp was cultivated.

For our products, Yummy CBD only uses non-genetically modified (GMO-free) organic hemp grown and harvested right here in the USA by our partner farms mostly in Wisconsin. Moreover, the hemp we use is farmed in accordance with the strict guidelines and quality control standards set forth by the Department of Agriculture.

In addition, our products are guaranteed free of impurities and contaminants; they contain NO pesticides, chemical fertilizers, solvents, or fungus. We maintain high standards for extraction and purification to further ensure the purity and safety of our products. All our products are made at our FDA-registered facility in small batches using clean, environmentally friendly methods.

Make Sure it is Really Certified Organic

If you are purchasing a product that claims to be “organic”, make sure it is actually organic and not just some marketing gimmick trying to get your money. To officially be a USDA organic product, it must be certified by an approved agency (such as MOSA), and the official USDA Organic seal must be printed on the product label. Accept no substitutes.

Yummy CBD’s certified organic products are certified USDA Organic by MOSA and clearly marked on the product label. Please be aware that we only sell products made with CBD from organically grown hemp, but not all our products are certified organic. We only use high-quality, natural ingredients but not every ingredient is able to be certified organic.

Confirm that it is 3rd Party Lab Tested

Choose a company that is transparent about where they source their hemp and provide third-party lab results for all of their products. All CBD products are supposed to be tested and certified by a third-party laboratory for purity and potency. All CBD sellers should have a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for each and every product they sell. A legit retailer will have no qualms about providing proof of such testing for its products.  In fact, many states require that each product’s lab results be linked to on the packaging label (such as via a barcode or QR code that can be scanned).  If this information is not available for a product, absolutely do not buy it.

So that you can be confident that you are getting the safest, highest quality CBD, all Yummy CBD products undergo independent testing by a third-party lab to certify the purity and potency of our CBD. In addition, all our product packages are printed with a QR code linked to that product’s lab results. You can also view all the Certificates of Analysis online on our Lab Results page.

Different Types of CBD Extracts

The type of CBD extract used in the product greatly affects its potential. So, you’ll want to make sure you pick a CBD product that is formulated to provide the types of benefits you are wanting to experience.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD. It is just the CBD compound extracted from the hemp plant, but everything else from the plant is stripped away.

The advantage of CBD isolate is that you know exactly what to expect from it because it only contains Cannabidiol (CBD compound).  However, the disadvantage (and it’s a big one) is that this kind of CBD extract is the least effective. This is because CBD works best when used in conjunction with other compounds from the hemp plant.

Broad-Spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD contains CBD as well as selected other natural compounds from the hemp plant (but not THC), which are all thought to enhance the benefits and efficacy of the CBD product.

The upside of broad-spectrum CBD is that it may provide a wider range of benefits due to the inclusion of the other compounds. Also, it has been shown that when the different compounds in the hemp plant are used together, they work synergistically causing what is called the “entourage effect”. This phenomenon has been shown to deliver greater results than when using simple isolated compounds alone.

The downside of broad-spectrum CBD is that it’s missing at least one ingredient that has been shown to be essential in maximizing the entourage effect.

Full-Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD is generally considered the best type of extract to have in CBD products.  This is because it includes all the active compounds from the hemp plant, including a trace amount of THC. The biggest pro in favor of full-spectrum CBD is that you get the full power of the entourage effect (as described above).

The amount of THC in full-spectrum CBD products is very small and is subject to the legal limitations of no more than .3%. So, even if you were to drink a whole bottle of CBD oil or eat an entire bag of gummies, you would still not consume enough THC to have any psychoactive effect. Since an effective dose of THC is usually between 5 and 10 mg, it would require ingesting a large amount of full-spectrum CBD to reach that level.

All Yummy CBD products are made with full-spectrum CBD to maximize the benefits available from taking CBD.

Different Types of CBD Products

There are lots of different types of CBD products to pick from on the market today.  And each type works a little differently due to the mode of delivery. The most popular types are discussed next so you can determine which best fits your needs and lifestyle.

CBD Oil Tinctures

One of the most common ways people take CBD is as an oil (also called tinctures).  A big benefit of using CBD oil is that it can be taken sublingually (meaning it is absorbed into the bloodstream via the capillaries under the tongue), so it works faster than other types of CBD products. This is because CBD taken this way has higher bioavailability (meaning the beneficial natural compounds are absorbed more fully and quickly by the body) than if it has to be broken down by the body first (like through digestion).

Taken sublingually, the effects of CBD are typically felt more quickly and are felt in a more pronounced way than when ingested (such as when CBD oil is mixed with food or when eating a CBD gummy).

Another nice thing about CBD oil is that it allows for a lot of flexibility and control of serving size. Using the bottle’s included dropper, it is easy to measure out the exact dose you want so you can adjust the amount you take to be what works best for you. All of our CBD oils come with a 1 mL graduated dropper for accurate dispensing, so you can easily administer your desired dosage amount.

Also, make sure you check the bottle label to see what carrier oil is used. Yummy CBD uses Organic MCT oil (coconut derived) as it is very stable and has a long shelf life if stored in a cool, dark place.

CBD Gummies

CBD gummies are another very popular product. What’s great about them is you just pop them in your mouth, chew, and swallow. They are truly that easy to take! Many people choose gummies because they are super convenient and great to take on the go because there is no bottle and dropper to contend with like with CBD oil. And since they come made with a pre-measured amount of CBD per gummy, it eliminates any guesswork because you don’t have to precisely measure it out to figure out the dose every time.

CBD gummies tend to have a slower onset but have longer-lasting effects, so they are a good option if you want the benefits to last longer (such as through your workday or through a full night). Because gummies are eaten, they go through the digestive system.  As a result, you will likely start noticing the effects about 30-90 minutes after eating a gummy. Then, once it kicks in, the effects from CBD gummies typically last up to 6-8 hours.

Gummies also have a decent shelf life if they are kept in a sealed bag in a cool, dry, dark place. Just be sure to keep them safely out of reach from any kids who might mistake them for treats.

Topical CBD Products

If you are looking for localized support for aches and pains, a CBD topical – such as CBD-infused lotions, creams, and balms – is probably a good fit for you. These types of products are applied directly to the area where you want to experience the effects.

Since the compounds in over-the-counter CBD topicals don’t enter the bloodstream, the effects are mainly felt where it is applied, that is to say, on the skin or underlying muscles and joints.

Inhaled CBD Products

There are a variety of CBD products on the market that can be inhaled.  High-CBD hemp flower can be smoked and a type of CBD oil concentrate can be vaped. The CBD goes directly into your bloodstream, so you feel the effects very quickly.

But smoking or vaping can cause some big negative side effects. You expose yourself to carcinogens. Also, thinning agents and carriers are often found in vape cartridges and can cause damage to lung tissue. Some are made with harmful chemicals and have impurities that can irritate the lungs, cause coughing and wheezing, exacerbate existing symptoms, or even cause permanent damage. As a result, we don’t recommend using them.
