Is anxiety getting the best of you? Have you been looking for ways to calm your mind and relieve anxiety but find your options limited?

More and more recent studies are finding that CBD is a safe and effective way to help with a  number of health conditions, including anxiety.

It is always the best idea to check with your doctor before adding a new element to your wellness routine, and CBD should not be considered a replacement for essential medical treatment. But the data show that CBD has a very low risk of side effects, isn’t addictive, and won’t cause impairment.

Why wouldn’t you give it a chance? Keep reading to learn all the details behind CBD and anxiety.

Where Does CBD Come From?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is the second most prevalent natural chemical compound found in Cannabis Sativa.

Until the Farm Bill legalized hemp in 2018, CBD remained illegal. Studies about its therapeutic potential were scarce. This was because legislators had concerns with THC. This compound is still considered a controlled substance by the federal government.

THC has psychoactive effects, but CBD and other cannabinoids like CBC or CBG do not.

Now, industrial hemp with less than .3% of THC is legal in all 50 states. As long as CBD comes from legalized industrial hemp, then it is legal too.

CBD is a great option for improving your daily wellness routine as it is usually legal to buy and use it without a medical marijuana card (some states have specific regulations).

CBD offers a variety of benefits for a variety of health conditions. It is perhaps best known for its treatment of childhood epilepsy syndromes. But animal studies and research in humans suggest that it can also assist with anxiety.

How Does CBD Work?

Remember, CBD is not psychoactive so you don’t have to worry about it getting you high like traditional marijuana use. In fact, the World Health Organization reports that by itself CBD exhibits no effects that are indicative of abuse or dependence.

Our bodies have an endocannabinoid system that is responsible for regulating a bunch of different functions that help us feel our best. Sleep, appetite, pain sensation, and immune response are just a few.

Our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids that work inside of this system. They are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system.

Phytocannabinoids created by plants like hemp can bind with the cannabinoid receptors in our nervous system and affect their functions. They can change how signals pass through our nervous system to our brain.

CBD does not bind directly to these receptors. Instead, they boost our body’s own natural endocannabinoid production. It also helps them stick around longer, which can boost your mood and make you feel better.

So far the FDA has only approved one CBD prescription drug, and it is a purified form of CBD for some types of epilepsy. We look forward to the future breakthroughs that can be expected as more and more studies are conducted.

CBD is a great alternative for those who suffer from anxiety and don’t want to take medication, like inhibitors or highly addictive opioids.

It won’t be a cure-all, but when used to help with mild conditions and as a supplemental aid, CBD may have an incredible impact.

Full-Spectrum CBD and the Entourage Effect

CBD works best when the entourage effect is in full swing.

Compounds like terpenes and other cannabinoids like CBC impact things like flavor and aroma, and boost each other’s powers. This means products that have trace amounts of THC or other cannabinoids can have a better effect than those with pure CBD.

Imagine washing your car with a bucket of water. When you finish, your car will definitely be cleaner than when you started. But if you added a bit of soap to your bucket, your car would be undeniably sparkly and feeling its best.

That’s the difference between CBD isolate and full-spectrum CBD. It is still doing the same job but with more powerful benefits.

That’s why all Yummy CBD products are full-spectrum. This way you can get the best possible benefits from your oils and gummies.

Many people who take CBD report effects as being more long-lasting and enhanced compared to a broad-spectrum or isolate product.

Living With Anxiety

Anxiety disorders are the most prominent mental health condition in the United States. Estimates show over 31% of US adults deal with anxiety.

It is no surprise as we are constantly on the go. Always plugged in. Putting off taking care of ourselves.

Mental health disorders are often treated with pharmaceutical drugs. However, for some they can cause unwanted side effects that include insomnia, headaches, sexual dysfunction, and addiction, just to name a few.

But now we have the option of using CBD to slow down our day, calm our nerves, and help us feel like ourselves again.

Thankfully CBD is one of the most researched cannabinoids, and we can be confident about the therapeutic benefits it offers when it comes to anxiety.

So far, the science agrees that it is generally well-tolerated and has little potential for abuse. Research investigating the full potential of CBD for symptoms of anxiety is still ongoing.

Since hemps legalization in 2018, we have seen a rush of interest and activity in the CBD world. We look forward to learning more and more about all of the potential health benefits it has to offer us.

What Research Says About CBD and Anxiety

According to a 2015 review, CBD interacts with a few key receptors in the brain that regulate fear and anxiety. The authors of the study also found evidence that CBD was an effective treatment for a few types of anxiety disorders. They include the following disorders:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Social anxiety disorder

A 2020 study carried out in New Zealand found even more promising benefits. In total 397 adults participated in a study to evaluate CBD’s effects on a variety of ailments. They included things like non-cancer pain, cancer pain, neurological symptoms, and mental health symptoms.

All of the groups in the study reported improvements in their overall quality of life after 3 weeks of using CBD. Notably, the people that were in the anxiety or depression group reported improvements in their ability to perform daily functions and reduced pain and anxiety or depression-related symptoms.

Most (70%) of the participants reported having satisfaction with the CBD oil treatment. Only 9% of the participants said they experienced any adverse side effects. They were sedation and vivid dreams. And only 0.8% of the study population reported worsening symptoms.

Additionally, the authors of a 2020 study took the time to review eight studies investigating CBD for treating various anxiety disorders. They found evidence to support that the use of CBD was an effective monotherapy or complementary therapy for treating generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Are There Risks or Side Effects?

CBD is often well-tolerated, but as you can see from the studies above that is not the case one hundred percent of the time.

As amazing as CBD is, there are still some potential side effects to be aware of.

Some of the minor side effects that can pop up include dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, drowsiness, or fatigue. More seriously, CBD can interact with other medications you may be taking like blood thinners.

Beyond side effects, there is a risk that you may purchase a product that is not what it seems.

With the flood of CBD brands rushing the market, there are products that are not tested for potency or toxins. Studies show that many products have less CBD than claimed, more THC, and potentially harmful chemicals, toxins, or contaminants.

This is why it is crucial to purchase CBD products from trusted retailers that are transparent about what is in their products.

Yummy CBD makes sure third-party lab tests are conducted on all of our products. And we make the certificate of analysis easily available for consumers so that you can rest assured you are buying exactly what you think you are.

Is It Safe to Take CBD For Anxiety?

As we’ve mentioned above, CBD is known to be well-tolerated and is widely accepted as safe to use. But it is not evaluated by the FDA and is mostly available as an OTC supplement.

This means there is not a strict level of regulations on the products being sold. Sadly, not all CBD products can be trusted. If you don’t do your homework before making a purchase, you may get something that you didn’t expect.

And the worst-case scenario is one where you buy products that contain contaminants like heavy metals or pesticides.

The FDA has been busy sending out warning letters to dozens of companies for selling products with levels of CBD that are not what they claim on the label. And there are more that contain THC amounts larger than .3% or show the presence of toxic chemicals like lead.

The take-home message: While CBD is considered safe, not all brands are.

Only buy CBD from a trusted source that is transparent about what is in their products. Yummy CBD uses only high-quality ingredients and hemp growth by organic farmers here in the USA.

Also, remember, It is possible for CBD to interact with some medications. So if you are taking a prescription medication, it is a good idea to speak with your doctor about how to safely add CBD into your wellness routine. They will also be able to answer questions you may have about proper dosage amounts or anything else you may be wondering about.
